IR Windows Eliminate Panel Cover Removal

Because infrared imagers cannot ‘see’ through solid objects, accurate infrared inspections of electrical switchgear require the removal of panel covers to provide a direct line-of sight to subject components.  Often, panel cover removal/replacement is the most time-consuming aspect of an infrared inspection.  One alternative is the installation of IR switchgear windows.

Moisture Around Roof Pitch Pockets

Most roofs have pipes, vents or other penetrations that require special details to prevent infiltration of moisture. A roof pitch pocket is a sheet metal box with a flange on the bottom and is designed to surround roof penetrations. The flange is secured under the roof system to provide a water-tight seal.

Standards for Infrared Inspections of Electrical Systems

Performed properly, infrared inspections are a valuable tool for preventive/predictive maintenance of electrical systems. Current industry standards cover inspection procedures, certification of personnel, equipment selection and use, and safety. Presently, standards that apply to infrared inspections of electrical systems are published by:

Correct Vantage Point for Infrared Building Envelope Surveys

There is no “one size fits all” when planning and performing an Infrared Building Envelope Survey.  Whether the survey is being conducted to locate moisture, identify air leakage, or provide an overview for energy certification are some of the first factors to be considered when deciding the vantage point for an Infrared Building Survey.  Other […]

Electrical Equipment Checklist for IR Survey

Based on 30+ years of experience, Jersey Infrared Consultants offers this Electrical Equipment Checklist to help you plan for your next Infrared Electrical System Survey.   Electrical Equipment […]

Hearing + Seeing = Infrasonic™ Steam System Survey

Passive ultrasound and infrared thermography are two types of non-destructive testing that provide different, and complementary, information for preventive and predictive maintenance.  When inspecting a steam system, the combination of these two technologies provides information that is unmatched in its accuracy.

White Paper Available on IR Windows

Most people involved with electrical system maintenance have heard of infrared windows, but many do not have a working knowledge of them. Until there is a solid understanding of the “What, Where, and How” of infrared windows, this valuable asset is under used by facilities.
